Zhaoqing Ma'an LFG Power Generation Project (hereafter referred to as the Project) is an LFG power generation project with total installed capacity of 2MW, locates at Zhaoqing,City Guangdong Province, in People's Republic of China. The project installs 2 sets of LFG generators with unit capacity of 1,000 kW. The purpose of the project is to recover the landfill gas at Phase II of Ma'an landfill site and utilize LFG to generate and supply electricity to China South Power Grid (CSPG).
Phase I of Ma'an landfill site started operation since 1993 and was closed in 2014. Phase II of Ma'an landfill site started operation since October in 2014 and can handle 900 tonnes of MSW per day when running at its full capacity. The total storage capacity of phase II of Ma'an landfill site reaches 1.1 million cubic metres and the phase II of Ma'an landfill site was closed in April 2020.
The project will achieve green-house gas emissions reduction from two sources: 1) Methane (CH4) emissions from the previously vented landfill gas which will be captured and destroyed by the project; 2) CO2 emissions from the production of electricity by the Project which would otherwise have been generated by the fossil fuel fired power plants of China South Power Grid (CSPG). The project is expected to achieve an annually average emission reduction of 60,465 tCO2e. The total emission reductions during the fixed 10-year crediting period will be 604,653 tCO2e.
The project is expected to contribute to 3 SDGs which are SDG 7, 8 and 13.
