Project Brief

The proposed project activity consists in the implementation and operation of two new wind electricity generation facilities, which together operate 20 aerogenerators in the municipality of Ilha Grande, Piauí, Brazil. The municipality of Ilha Grande is located approximately 350km from the capital of the state of Piauí, Teresina, and has an estimated population of 9,487 people. The territorial extension of Ilha Grande is 134,318 km2 and borders the municipality of Parnaíba and the State of Maranhão.

The project activity will deliver 254,969 MWh/year of renewable electricity to the National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional - SIN). In the baseline scenario, electricity delivered to the grid by the project activity would have been generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants and by the addition of new generation sources, as reflected in the combined margin (CM) calculations. Hence, the project activity will promote GHG emissions reductions by displacing fossil fuel-based electricity generation that would otherwise occur.
