Project Brief

The project activity “Emission Reduction from Tenaga Generasi Limited Grid Connected 49.5MW Wind Power Plant” (project) being implemented by Tenaga Generasi Limited involves the installation of 49.5 MW Wind Power Project (wind farm) consisting of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) with capacity of 30x1.6 MW and 1x1.5 MW, a total of 49.5 MW. The WTGs are supplied by General Electric (GE).

The project is located at Deh Khuttikun,Taluka Mirpur Sakro, District Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan. The objective of the project is to generate renewable electricity using wind energy and supply of the electricity generated to the National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC) of Pakistan. The electricity generated by the project will thus displace the equivalent amount of electricity generated by operation of existing grid connected power plants and by addition of new generation sources to the grid.

The project was licensed on 29/12/2014 by the NTDC, through its Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA), to dispatch electricity to the NTDC grid of Pakistan.

The crediting period chosen for the project is fixed crediting period of 10 years. The net electricity generation of the project is expected at 147,864.4 MWh per annum which results in annual average GHG emission reductions of 86,878 tCO2e per annum.

    VERIFICATION OUTCOME
    Opinion

The GCC Project Verifier, KBS Certification Services Pvt. Ltd., has verified and certified that the GCC Project Activity – ‘Emission Reductions from Tenaga Generasi Limited Grid Connected 49.5MW Wind Power Plant’ has correctly described the Project Activity in the Project Submission Form (version 03.2 dated 22/06/2023 including the applicability of the approved methodology  ACM0002 version 20.0. and meets the methodology applicability conditions, is additional and is expected to achieve the forecasted real and additional GHG emission reductions, complies with the monitoring methodology, has appropriately conducted local and global stakeholder consultation processes and has calculated emission reduction estimates correctly and conservatively; is likely to generate GHG emission reductions amounting to the estimated annual average ACCs of up to 86,878 tCO2e and a total of 868,780 tCO2e ACCs over 10-year period. The generated ACCs will be utilized to offset GHG emissions as indicated in the PSF which are additional to the reductions that are likely to occur in absence of the Project Activity and complies with all applicable requirement of the GCC Program and ICAO’s requirements on CORSIA Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria and CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units, as per Clarification No 1.3, v1.2 § 21-23, and the ACCs expected to be issued during the crediting period is likely to be CORSIA eligible and can be used by International Airlines for offsetting their emissions during all phases of CORSIA, therefore requests GCC Steering Committee to append CORSIA Certification label (C+) to this project, including ISO 14064-2 and ISO 14064-3, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the Project Activity; is not likely to cause any netharm to the environment and/or society and complies with the Environmental and Social Safeguards Standard, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the Project Activity, which is likely to achieve the requirements of the Environmental No-net-harm Label (E+) and the Social No-net-harm Label (S+); and is likely to contribute to the achievement of United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), comply with the Project Sustainability Standard, and contribute to achieving a total of 4 SDGs, which is likely to achieve the Gold SDG certification label (SDG+).
