Project Brief

Project activity involves installation of two solar power units in the Kargudi Village at Tamil Nadu in India with installed capacity of 10 MW and 5 MW, thus the total project capacity comes to 15 MW. The project is implemented by SJLT Spinning Mills Private Limited and SJLT Textiles Private Limited. The main objective of this project activity is to generate clean power and use it for captive consumption. The project is having wheeling agreement with the Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) for transmission to their own facilities for captive consumption. In absence of the project activity, SJLT would have drawn power from Indian grid mix which is a more carbon intensive source of energy that is electricity from fossil fuel power plant.

The project boundary includes the project power plant and all power plants connected physically to the Indian Grid. The project is a greenfield project activity.

The project activity will contribute to sustainable development in the host country in Social, Economic and Environmental aspects. This project positively contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals 7, 8 and 13.

Additional Information

The annual net electricity generation from this project activity is estimated to be 25.683 GWh. The implementation of the project is estimated to achieve 24,014 tCO2e emission reductions per year and total GHG emission reductions of 240,139 tCO2e over the entire crediting period, by generating electricity through renewable source which otherwise would have been generated through fossil fuels.
