Project Brief

The project activity involves the installation of two new grid-connected bundled solar power plants totaling 45 MW in Madhya Pradesh State and Telangana State of India. These sites had no existing renewable power plants before this project (green-field plants). The project comprises a single 30 MW solar power project in Village Richha, Tehsil - Alote, District - Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, commissioned in three phases: 20 MW, 4.76 MW, and 5.24 MW. Additionally, there is a separate 15 MW project in Village – Munukuntla & Kurumarthy, Taluk/Mandal - Kattangur, District - Nalgonda, Telangana. These installations collectively form the 45 MW capacity, implemented by Narbheram Vishram. The electricity generated from Project Activity is exported to the Indian grid there by displacing the consumption of electricity from the regional grid electricity distribution system.

Additional Information

The project activity will replace anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) by displacing electricity generation from non-renewable energy sources with renewable energy. It is estimated to generate an average of 79,090 MWh of electricity per year, resulting in an average annual reduction of 73,632 tCO2e. Over the entire fixed crediting period of 10 years, this amounts to a total electricity generation of 790,896 MWh and a total reduction of 736,324 tCO2e by from both the power plants.

Opinion

LGAI Technological Center S.A. (Applus+ Certification) has performed a verification of the “45 MW Bundled Solar Project at Madhya Pradesh and Telangana”. The verification is performed on the basis of GCC criteria project verification standard, Version 3.1 for the project activity, GCC guideline and host country criteria, as well as criteria given to provide for consistent project operations, monitoring and reporting.

The review of the final version of GCC PSF and the subsequent Remote Audit/ follow-up interviews has provided Applus+ Certification with sufficient evidence to determine the fulfillment of stated criteria. In our opinion, the project meets all relevant GCC project standard requirements for the GCC. The project will hence be recommended by LGAI Technological Center S.A. (Applus+ Certification) for registration with the GCC.

By displacing fossil fuel-based electricity with electricity generated from a renewable source, the project results in reductions of CO2 emissions that are real, measurable and give long-term benefits to the mitigation of climate change. Emission reductions attributable to the project are hence additional to any that would occur in the absence of the project activity. Given that the project is implemented as designed, the project is likely to achieve the estimated amount of annual emission reductions of 73,632 tCO2e per year.

The verification has been performed following the requirements of the latest version of GCC verification standard, Version 03.1, GCC Project Standard, version 03.1 and on the basis of the contractual agreement.

In detail the conclusions can be summarized as follows:

-         The project does not result in negative social, environmental and/or economic impacts.

-         The project contribution to Environment, Social Development and Economic and technological development

-         The project additionality is sufficiently justified in the GCC PSF.

-         Conservative assumptions were applied in the project description.

-         The monitoring plan of SDG parameters is transparent and adequate.

-         The project meets the local stakeholder consultation requirements.

The Project Activity complies with all the applicable requirements of the GCC Program and ICAO’s requirements on CORSIA Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria and CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units. Therefore, it is requested to GCC Steering Committee to append CORSIA Pilot phase Certification label (C+) to this project when the Host Country Attestation on Double Counting required by CORSIA is provided during the emission reduction verification.

The conclusions of this report show that the project, as it was described in the project documentation, is in line with all criteria applicable for the verification.
