Project Brief | The Project Activity is the installation of a new grid-connected 9 MW small hydro power plant/unit at a site where no renewable power plant was operating prior to the implementation of the project activity (green-field plant). The project is implemented in Himachal Pradesh, India by M/s Sandhya Hydro Power Projects Balargha Private Limited.
The electricity generated from Project Activity is exported to the Indian grid in India there by displacing electricity from the regional grid electricity distribution system generated by fossil fuel based power plants.
The electricity generated by the Project Activity thus replaces the equivalent amount of electricity generated by the operation of existing/ grid connected power plants (mostly fossil fuel based power plants) and by addition of new generation sources into the grid. The Project Activity thus reduces the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in to the atmosphere associated with the equivalent amount of electricity generation from the existing grid connected power plants (mostly fossil fuel) and by addition of new generation sources into the grid. |

Opinion | The GCC Project Verifier, KBS Certification Services Ltd., has verified and certified that the GCC Project Activity – ‘Renewable Hydro Project by Sandhya Hydro Power Projects Balargha Private Limited’ has correctly described the Project Activity in the Project Submission Form including the applicability of the approved methodology AMS I.D. version 18.0. and meets the methodology applicability conditions, is additional and is expected to achieve the forecasted real, measurable and additional GHG emission reductions, complies with the monitoring methodology, has appropriately conducted local and global stakeholder consultation processes and has calculated emission reduction estimates correctly and conservatively; is likely to generate GHG emission reductions amounting to the estimated annual average ACCs of up to 45,067 tCO2e and a total of 450,670 tCO2e ACCs over 10-year period. The generated ACCs will be utilized to offset GHG emissions as indicated in the PSF which are additional to the reductions that are likely to occur in absence of the project activity and complies with all applicable requirement of the GCC Program and ICAO’s requirements on CORSIA Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria and CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units, as per Clarification No 1., v1.3 paragraph 23-25, and the ACCs expected to be issued during the crediting period is likely to be CORSIA eligible and can be used by International Airlines for offsetting their emissions during all phases of CORSIA, therefore requests GCC Steering Committee to append CORSIA Certification label (C+) to this project, including ISO 14064-2 and ISO 14064-3, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the project activity; is not likely to cause any net-harm to the environment and/or society and complies with the Environmental and Social Safeguards Standard, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the Project Activity, which is likely to achieve the requirements of the Environmental No-net-harm Label (E+) and the Social No-net-harm Label (S+); and is likely to contribute to the achievement of United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), comply with the Project Sustainability Standard, and contribute to achieving a total of 4 SDGs, which is likely to achieve the Gold SDG certification label (SDG+). |
