Project Brief

The proposed Houay Lamphanh Gnai Project identified and developed by Electricite Du Laos is located on Houay Lamphanh Gnai river in the Bolaven plateau in Thateng District, Sekong province of Laos PDR .

The nominal installed capacity of the project is 88 MW (the actual installed capacity is 86.8MW with two 43.4MW units), with estimated annual power generation 452 GWh. The generated electricity from the project activity is supplied to the regional grid consisting of Thailand power grid and the Lao power grid.

The purpose of the project activity is to produce renewable energy using hydro power for supplying to grid. In the absence of the project activity, equivalent amount of electricity would have been
generated by the operation of grid connected fossil fuel-based power plants. The Project activity, thus, reduces the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in to the atmosphere
associated with the equivalent amount of electricity generation from the fossil fuel-based grid connected power plant. The project activity is commissioned dated 14/02/2016.

The estimated annual average and the total CO2e emission reduction by the project activity over the crediting period of 10 years are expected to be 252,895 tCO2e and 2,528,950 tCO2e respectively.
