Project Brief | The project’s aim is to develop a solar powered irrigation solution that meet the needs of small and marginal farmers who don’t own pumps and pay a hefty premium for irrigation from diesel pump sets provided by their neighbors or local dealers. The diesel pump sets are expensive to operate and more importantly cause a lot of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Claro Energy conceptualized a low cost, on-demand irrigation service in rural parts of India where electricity isscarce, and farmers mostly use diesel pump sets. The solar powered pump offsets the diesel consumed by the baseline pumps. The approach was to design a solar powered system to maximize its utilization and reduce demand risks. Also, CLARO has built a stable Internet-of-Things(IoT) based transaction system that can work seamlessly in rural areas. This project has been implemented in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand,Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. |
