Project Brief | KRD Van Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. has constructed the Saral-3 Regulator and Hydro Power Plant Project. The aim of the project is to produce electrical energy to the Turkish national grid. KRD Van Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. constructed a hydropower plant in Çatak district, Van province, Turkey. The project includes 2 sections which are HES-3 and HES-4. HES-4 has not been installed and commissioned yet. It has been planned to be installed at 16/03/2023. In HES-4, there will be 2 units where they will have 3.045 MWm / 2.915 MWe capacity for each. The other section is HES-3 which has been installed and operated. In HES-3, there are 3 units. Two of them have 2.410 MWm / 2.300 MWe installed capacity. The other one has 0.904 MWm / 0.800 MWe installed capacity. Generation License has been amended accordingly. Until 01/03/2023, the total capacity of the commissioned units is 5.249 MWm / 4.990 MWe. Annual electricity production is expected to be 35.956 GWh for the commissioned units according to the generation license and commissioning certificates (The electricity generation value stated in the generation license includes both HES-3 and HES-4, but since only three units have been commissioned, the value is apportioned as stated above). After 01/03/2023, the total capacity of the project will be 11.814 MWm / 11.230 MWe, and the annual electricity production is expected to be 80.920 GWh. The generation license is signed on 16/01/2020 and amended on 15/10/2020. The emission reduction is estimated around 38,845 tCO2e per annum. For the entire crediting period 388,450 tonnes of CO2 are expected to be reduced. |

Opinion | The GCC Project Verifier [EPIC Sustainability Services Private Limited], certifies the following with respect to the GCC Project Activity [Saral-3 Regulator and Hydro Power Plant] The Project Owner has correctly described the Project Activity in the Project Submission Form (version 1.6, dated 06/01/2023) including the applicability of the approved methodology [reference number of CDM methodology AMS –I.D version 18.0] and meets the methodology applicability conditions and is expected to achieve the forecasted real and additional GHG emission reductions, complies with the monitoring methodology, has appropriately conducted local and global stakeholder consultation processes and has calculated emission reductions estimates correctly and conservatively The Project Activity is likely to generate GHG emission reductions amounting to the estimated 38,845 tCO2e/year, as indicated in the PSF, which are additional to the reductions that are likely to occur in absence of the Project Activity and complies with all applicable GCC rules, including ISO 14064-2 and ISO 14064-3. The Project Activity is not likely to cause any net-harm to the environment and/or society and complies with the Environmental and Social Safeguards Standard, and is likely to achieve the Environmental No-net-harm Label (E+) and Social No-net-harm Label (S+). The Project Activity is likely to contribute to the achievement of United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), complies with the Project Sustainability Standard, and contributes to achieving a total of [4] SDGs, with the Gold SDG certification label (SDG+) The Project Activity complies with all the applicable requirements of the GCC Program and ICAO’s requirements on CORSIA Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria and CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units, as per Clarification No 1., v1.2 paragraph 21-23, and the ACCs expected to be issued during the crediting period is likely to be CORSIA eligible and can be used by International Airlines for offsetting their emissions during all phases of CORSIA and therefore requests GCC Steering Committee to append CORSIA Certification label (C+) to this project The Project Activity complies with all the applicable GCC rules and therefore recommends GCC Program to register the Project activity with above mentioned labels. |
