Project Brief

Erkar LFG Power Plant is located in Erzincan Province of Turkey. Before the proposed project activity, the wastes were left to decay within the Erzincan landfill site and methane was emitted into the atmosphere without any control or utilization. The proposed activity involves the collection of landfill gas (LFG) through solid waste management and using it for electricity generation. Electricity generated is fed to the national grid.

The electricity is 10,920 MWh per year by the project activity according to the generation licence. The project has supply the Turkish National Grid with zero emission energy, generated by the LFG. Electricity currently generated by the grid is relatively carbon intensive, with a combined margin emission factor of 0.5706 tCO2/MWh. The connection point of the project activity is 31,5 kV TM-39 TRA-DM. Through the estimated electricity generation and methane capture total emission reduction will be 20,897 tCO2 per year and 208,973 tCO2e for the first crediting period.
