Project Brief

The purpose of project activity is to generate and feed to the connected national electricity grid of India GHG free electricity by the installation of a 300MWp solar power project. The project activity is located in Surendranagar District of state of Gujarat in India.

The project boundary includes the project site where the plant has been installed, power evacuation infrastructure including the other power stations feeding to the connected electricity grid, energy metering points, switch yards and other civil constructs.

The baseline of the project activity is continued generation of electricity in the national grid of India.  The electricity generation in India is highly carbon intensive. According to the latest data from Central Electricity Authority on carbon intensity of grid electricity, the combined margin emission factor of the grid electricity is 0.9346tCO2e/MWh and therefore electricity generation from solar power project as in the project activity results into emission reductions. It is estimated that the project activity will effect a cumulative GHG emission reduction of 5,687,398 tCO2e over 10 year period of project activity.

VERIFICATION OUTCOME
Opinion

The GCC Project Verifier, KBS Certification Services Pvt. Ltd., has verified and certified that the GCC Project Activity – ‘Solar Power Project in Surendranagar, Gujarat by Avaada Sunrise Energy’ has

 (a)   has correctly described the Project Activity in the Project Submission Form (version 4.1, dated 05 July 2022 including the applicability of the approved methodology ACM0002 version 20.0 and meets the methodology applicability conditions, is additional and is expected to achieve the forecasted real and additional GHG emission reductions, complies with the monitoring methodology, has appropriately conducted local and global stakeholder consultation processes and has calculated emission reduction estimates correctly and conservatively;

(b)   is likely to generate GHG emission reductions amounting to the estimated 568,739 tCO2eq annual average, and 5,687,398  tCO2eq  during the entire crediting period of 10 years as indicated in the PSF, which are additional to the reductions that are likely to occur in absence of the Project Activity and complies with all applicable GCC rules, including ISO 14064-2 and ISO 14064-3, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the Project Activity;

(c)    is not likely to cause any net-harm to the environment and/or society and complies with the Environmental and Social Safeguards Standard, and therefore requests the GCC Program to register the Project Activity, which is likely to achieve the requirements of the Environmental No-net-harm Label (E+) and the Social No-net-harm Label (S+); and

(d) is likely to contribute to the achievement of United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), comply with the Project Sustainability Standard, and contribute to achieving a total of 6 SDGs, which is likely to achieve the Diamond SDG certification label (SDG+).
