Project Brief

The Anemus Wind Power Complex project activity consists in the implementation and operation of the Wind Power Complex Anemus constituted by wind power plants (WPPs) Anemus Wind 1, Anemus Wind 2, Anemus Wind 3. The project activity employs 33 wind power turbines (WPTs), WEG model AGW 147/4.2, each with 4.2 MW (total nominal capacity: 138.6 MW). The project activity is a single homogeneous bundled project developed by organizing one homogeneous bundle of three activities which are Anemus Wind 1, Anemus Wind 2, Anemus Wind 3 WPPs. This is line with the definitions of Clarification number #1 of GCC.

The project is located in Currais Novos, in Rio Grande do Norte State, in the northeast region of Brazil. The project is formed by greenfield power plants. Therefore, according to the large-scale consolidated methodology ACM0002, the baseline scenario is that electricity delivered to the grid by the project activity would have otherwise been generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants and by the addition of new generation sources, as reflected in the Combined Margin (CM) emission factor calculations described in “TOOL07: Tool to calculate the emission factor for an electricity system”.

The spatial extent of the project boundary includes the project power plant/unit and all power plants/units connected physically to the electricity system that the project power plant is connected to. Anemus Wind 1, Anemus Wind 2 and Anemus Wind 3 WPPs are connected to Brazilian Interconnected System which is the project boundary of the Project.

The project activity is expected to reduce 306,458 tCO2e annually and 3,064,580 tCO2e during the whole crediting period of 10 years.

VERIFICATION OUTCOME
Opinion

KBS Certification Services Pvt. Ltd., has been contracted to undertake independent verification for the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions reported from the GCC Project Activity – ‘Anemus Wind Power Complex Project’ GCC Reference Number S00276 through submitted PSF version 07 dated 03/01/2023.

The proposed GCC project meets the requirements of latest version of GCC project framework v2.1, GCC program manual v3.1, GCC program processes v4.0, GCC project standard v3.1, GCC project sustainability standard v2.1, GCC verification standard v3.1, GCC Environment & Social safeguards standard v2.0, ISO 14064-2 & ISO 14064-3, applicable GCC approved Methodology ACM0002, version 20.0, applicable legal requirements/rules of the host country, and other GCC requirements related to aspects such as project design, applicable conditions, project boundary, baseline scenarios, additionality, emission reduction, monitoring plan, local stakeholder consultation, global stakeholder consultation, GHG emission reductions (ACCs). This report summarizes the final project verification opinion which is based on Project Submission Form version 07 dated 03/01/2023.

The verification team confirms that the evidences submitted are of sufficient quantity, appropriate quality and reliable. The reported values, notations, units and sources in the PSF for all the monitoring parameters have been cross checked with the latest version of approved methodology, GCC Project Standard, GCC verification standard, ISO 14064-2 and ISO 14064-3, applicable at the time of GSC of the project. During the course of verification and on-site visit, information provided was cross checked with the evidences submitted and guidance documents/tools/guidelines/forms.

Based on an understanding of the risks associated with reporting GHG emissions data and the controls in place to mitigate these, KBS planned and performed our work to obtain the information and explanations that we considered necessary to provide sufficient evidence for us to give reasonable assurance that the reported compliance with GCC requirements are fairly stated.

Based on the information seen and evaluated we confirm that the implementation of the project will result in 3,064,580 tCO2e over 10-year period of project activity with an average of 306,458 tCO2e GHG emission reduction per year.
