Project Brief

The Project Activity is the installation of a new grid-connected 100 MW wind power plant/unit at a site where no renewable power plant was operating prior to the implementation of the project activity (green-field plant). The project is implemented in Karnataka state of India. The project activity is connected to the grid through a 220kV SC line from project pooling substation to 220/110 KPTCL Kushtagi Substation as per Regular Power Evacuation Approval document.

The electricity generated from Project Activity is exported to the Indian grid in India there by displacing electricity from the regional grid electricity distribution system generated by fossil fuel-based power plants. The project boundary includes the wind project, sub-stations, grid and all power plants connected to grid. The proposed project activity will evacuate power to the Indian grid. Therefore, the entire Indian grid and all connected power plants have been considered in the project boundary for the project activity.

The electricity generated by the Project Activity thus replaces the equivalent amount of electricity generated by the operation of existing/ grid connected power plants (mostly fossil fuel-based power plants) and by addition of new generation sources into the grid. The Project Activity thus reduces the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in to the atmosphere associated with the equivalent amount of electricity generation from the existing grid connected power plants (mostly fossil fuel) and by addition of new generation sources into the grid.

Additional Information

M/s Ostro Dakshin Power Private Limited is the SPV of ReNew Power Private Limited and the project is promoted by ReNew Power Private Limited. The project shall result in replacing anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG’s) estimated to be approximately 298,333 tCO2/year, thereon displacing 320,616 MWh/ year amount of electricity from the generation-mix of power plants connected to the Indian grid, which is mainly dominated by thermal/fossil fuel-based power plant.

VERIFICATION OUTCOME
Opinion

LGAI Technological Center S.A. (Applus+ Certification) has performed a verification of the “Renewable wind power project in India -1- 015 by M/s. ReNew Green Energy Solutions Private Limited in Karnataka”. The verification is performed on the basis of GCC criteria project verification standard, Version 3.1 for the project activity, GCC guideline and host country criteria, as well as criteria given to provide for consistent project operations, monitoring and reporting.

The review of the final version of GCC PSF and the subsequent Onsite Visit / follow-up interviews has provided Applus+ Certification with sufficient evidence to determine the fulfillment of stated criteria. In our opinion, the project meets all relevant GCC project standard requirements for the GCC. The project will hence be recommended by LGAI Technological Center S.A. (Applus+ Certification) for registration with the GCC.

By displacing fossil fuel-based electricity with electricity generated from a renewable source, the project results in reductions of CO2 emissions that are real, measurable and give long-term benefits to the mitigation of climate change. Emission reductions attributable to the project are hence additional to any that would occur in the absence of the project activity. Given that the project is implemented as designed, the project is likely to achieve the estimated amount of annual emission reductions of 298,333 tCO2e per year.

The verification has been performed following the requirements of the latest version of GCC verification standard, Version 03.1, GCC Project Standard, version 03.1 and on the basis of the contractual agreement.

In detail the conclusions can be summarized as follows:

-            The project does not result in negative social, environmental and/or economic impacts.

-            The project contribution to Environment, Social Development and Economic and technological development

-            The project additionality is sufficiently justified in the GCC PSF.

-            Conservative assumptions were applied in the project description.

-            The monitoring plan of SDG parameters is transparent and adequate.

-            The project meets the local stakeholder consultation requirements.

The conclusions of this report show, that the project, as it was described in the project documentation, is in line with all criteria applicable for the verification
