Project Brief

Bingöl Landfill Gas to Electricity Project, developed by the ITC-KA Enerji Üretim Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.” (hereinafter referred to as the “project owner”) is located at the Bingöl landfill site in Bingöl Province of Turkey. The landfill receives the waste of approximately 242,000 people living in Merkez,Genç, Solhan, Arakonak and Ilıcalar Districts of the  Bingöl Municipalities. It is estimated that the landfill received around 266,420 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) till 2019. Approximately 64% of this waste consists of organic materials like pulp, paper & cardboard, food waste, garden waste and other organic waste. The average daily amount of waste landfilled is estimated to be around 243 ton/day between the years 2016 and 2018 and 189 ton/day between 2019-2029. The objective of the project activity is to reduce/limit the environmental impacts from the existing and future land filled waste. The project activity includes implementation of a Land Fill Gas (LFG) extraction and utilization system (for the purpose of power generation). The successful implementation of this project activity is considered viable with the revenue from carbon financing.

Additional Information

The annual estimated emission reductions for the project activity is 19,114  tCO2e.
