Project Brief

UFV Serra do Mato – SPE´s III e IV is a photovoltaic (PV) solar power project which primary goal is help meet Brazil’s rising demand for energy due to economic growth and to improve the supply of electricity, while contributing to environmental, social and economic sustainability by increasing the share of renewable energy in total electricity consumption of the country. The proposed project consists of the implementation of the UFV Serra do Mato – SPE´s III e IV composed of two plants where Serra do Mato III has an installed capacity of 47.362 MW and Serra do Mato IV has an installed capacity of 54.128 MW, which together the plants have a total installed capacity of 101.490 MW. The first plant (Serra do Mato III) become operational in 26/05/2023 and all plants are located in Trairi municipality, state of Ceará, Northeastern region of Brazil. The proposed project reduces emissions of greenhouse gases, by displacing electricity generation from the mix of fossil fuel sources connected to the Brazilian Interconnected Grid, which would be generated in the absence of the project. Since Serra do Mato III-IV PV Solar is connected to the grid its boundary includes the four power plants and all plants connected to the Brazilian Grid. During the crediting period, lasting 10 years (from 01/01/2026 to 31/12/2035), the project is expected to reduce 630,987 tCO2e, or 63,098 tCO2e/year.
