Project Brief

The Nam Chiane project is located in ThaThom District, Xaysomboun Province of Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) on the Nam Chiane river, a left branch of upstream section of Nam Ngiep River. The Nam Chiane project has actual installed capacity is 100 MW. The project activity has employed state of the art 2 number pelton turbines having individual capacity 51.55MW.  The net generated electricity is supplied to the regional grid.

The proposed project activity will supply generated power to the national grid. Therefore, all the power plants contributing electricity to the Thailand Power Grid and the Lao Power Grid have been considered in the project boundary for the purpose of baseline estimation. The project activity targets reduction of CO2e as main GHG greenhouse gas in baseline, there are no GHG emission associated with project activity. As per the applied approved methodology, the project activity is the installation of a Greenfield power plant, the baseline scenario is electricity delivered to the grid by the project activity would have otherwise been generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants. In the absence of the project activity same amount electricity would have been generated in which the electricity is generated by the fossil fuel intensive power plant .

The estimated annual average and the total CO2e emission reduction by the project activity over the crediting period of 10 years are expected to be 246,480 tCO2e and 2,464,800 tCO2e respectively.
