Project Brief

The proposed project activity consists in the implementation and operation of five new wide electricity generation facilities, SJA15 Jacinta, SJA16 Joaquim, SJA17 Julio I, SJA18 Justina and SJA19 João XXIII, located in the municipalities of Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova, in the Bahia state, Brazil.

The project activity will employ 80 Vestas V150 each with 4.5 MW Mode PO4-0S (total nominal capacity: 360MW). The windfarms SJA15 Jacinta, SJA16 Joaquim, SJA17 Julio I, SJA18 Justina and SJA19 João XXIII mentioned above will use 16 aerogenerators each. The physical implementation of the project activity is planned to start on October 2022.

The project activity will deliver 1,816,824 MWh/year of renewable electricity to the National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional - SIN). In the baseline, electricity delivered to the grid by the project activity would have been generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants and by the addition of new generation sources, as reflected in the combined margin (CM) calculations. Hence, the project activity will promote GHG emissions reductions by displacing fossil fuel-based electricity generation that would otherwise occur. The project boundary includes CO2 emissions from electricity generation in fossil fuel fired power plants that are displaced due to the project activity. Project and leakage emissions are not expected.
