Project Brief | The project is promoted by BCL Industries Limited. The purpose of the project activity is to install one 29 TPH biomass fired boiler and 4.6 MW back-pressure turbine set to cater the electricity and steam demand of the process. In absence of this project, equivalent amount of energy and steam would have been sourced from more carbon intensive sources i.e. Coal. The project activity is expected to reduce 51,719 t-CO2e per annum greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by avoiding fossil fuel combustion for steam and power generation. This project activityt will result in avoidance of GHG emissions associated with generation of equivalent amount of energy from a coal based captive co-generation plant. Moreover, the proposed project activity will utilize biomass which is a renewable source of energy and thus will prevent depletion of non-renewable natural resources like coal. |

Additional Information | The project contributes to the general well-being of the region. The project activity would help to alleviate poverty in the area as it creates employment opportunities for the local people during the construction, operation and maintenance phases and also through handling of biomass material to the project plant. This project activity also promotes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). |
