Project Brief

NFE South Power Holdings Limited, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of New Fortress Energy, Inc, developed and owns the first large scale Combined Heat and Power (CHP) natural gas-fired steam and electric power generating facility located adjacent to the Jamalco alumina refinery (“Jamalco”) in Clarendon, Jamaica (“NFE Jamalco CHP Plant” or the “Project”).

The NFE Jamalco CHP Plant comprises the following:

·       Supplying 94 MW of power to the Jamaican public electric grid operated by Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (“JPS”)

·       Supplying 689,500 GJ of steam per year to the Jamalco powerhouse (approx. 42% of the refinery steam requirement)

The Project aims at reducing emissions by using a less carbon intensive fossil fuel to generate power and steam as compared to the common practice in Jamaica, which is reliant on heavy fuel oil (“HFO”). By developing this Project, the investors have created a culture of new fuels in Jamaica, serving the increase in demand for energy on a sustainable manner. Also, this plant is part of the industrial advancement of Jamaica with creation of jobs in and around it.
