Project Brief

Ultratech Cement Limited (unit Hirmi Cement Works) at Village: Hirmi, Tehsil: Simga, District: Baloda Bazar - Bhatapara, in Chhattisgarh is commissioned a 15 MW, with an objective of recovering unutilized low-grade heat from clinker coolers and pre heater gases for power generation purposes. This project activity includes installation of waste heat recovery boilers to recover waste heat generated from the Cement Kiln, pre-heater and Air Quenching Chambers (AQC) and utilizes this waste heat (hot air drawing from mid tap) recovered from cooler, and exhaust flue gas with minimum heat source available from Pre-heater and AQC to generate superheated steam to produce power.

In the absence of this project activity, equivalent amount of energy would have been a met by fossil fuel based captive power plant. Hence the project activity will displace equivalent amount of electricity generation in fossil fuel based thermal power plant, thereby reducing GHG emission to atmosphere which would spew the comparable amount of GHG into the atmosphere. Hence, the implementation of this project activity leads to reduction in GHG emissions being associated with the coal-based power generation.

Additional Information

The Annual emission calculation for this Project is 80,475 tCO2e
